February 14 2025. Letter to the Editor -
Dear Editor -
" The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians is currently the victim of a 5 Million Dollar Ransomware attack. Our Casino had the largest money night of the year on February 9, 2025.
The Sault Tribe Operates a Sportsbook -The Super Bowl favored the team losing team.
That night:
The Board of Directors of the Sault Tribe allowed a lack of security to leave an open door to breach all of their severs. This means all administrative, Indian Health Services, and the Kewadin Casino were all hijacked at once.
They crossed a casino with our heritage, our historical record.
The Sault Tribe has been increasing its numbers by allowing those with very weak/ false blood lines to be added to our tribe.
They lost their records. I pray you are able to see how many new members they have added & how weak the bloodlines are-
They are stretching themselves thin attempting to open a new restaurant, and other business ventures. The Leadership has been traveling to Vegas again. The last time they traveled to Vegas- they squandered our tribes money.
Aaron Payment (currently on the Board of Directors) was the Tribal Chairman when the Tribe played a shell game while attempting to open Greektown in Detroit, MI.
They leveraged our entire tribe in an attempt to trick investors into believing we had the assets to cover our portion.
They were caught. Our Tribe had to file bankruptcy. Our stake in Greektown was given to investors & we just finished making payments (20 years).
I believe the Tribe was falsifying our membership records.
I believe the security system was weak to assure the a Malware Attack was able to destroy our entire historical record. They also allowed the server with our backup to be compromised.
They hired & fired an out of State I.T. Guy- He left disgruntled. I believe he was hired to be a scapegoat.
Please help us.
The Board of Directors don't allow us to ask questions in board meetings or anywhere else.
Last time they committed a multi-million dollar fraud we all paid.
We just want our tribe back, our heritage, we know we can be better if we have someone help us. We can't do it from within.
We need a way to restructure our government or hold embezzles accountable."
Author asks to be a unnamed source for fear of retaliation against her and her family by the Tribe. We therefore are honoring that request.

Editorial - It breaks our heart to hear about attacks against our tribe by criminals. We are sending prayers for success to those working to resolve this .............we will publish updates from the the Sault Tribe Communications Department when provided.
However we share the frustration of tribal members and appreciate the inside information.
Elder Wisdom -
1. This is an opportunity to learn that our businesses and health care offices need back-up operations plans for emergencies which allow them to operate without the need to be on-line.
2. Protect your Tribal ID and Credit Files. Freeze you and your children's credit files on all three credit bureaus. While this is always a good idea, this attack against our tribe just reinforces that habit. Even if your credit score is on the lower end freeze your credit to protect yourself............it will take about an hour or more when you start a freeze and about 20 minutes when you need to schedule a thaw to apply for credit in the future. We are not saying the hackers have our enrollment records but we can't be sure they don't have our information.
