Mackinac Straights Corridor Authority Meeting. The latest update on Enbridge Line 5 Tunnel.

October 21 2024.

To keep up with the truth about Enbridge Tunnel Five Permit watch the recording of the Mackinac Straights Corridor Authority October 18 2024 Meeting.

In 2023 Earth Justice reported that a coalition of more than 60 Tribal Nations from across the Midwest and Canada led by the Bay Mills Indian Community weighed in on Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s lawsuit to remove the Line 5 oil pipeline from the heart of the Great Lakes. All tribes appear to be in favor of closing down Line 5 immediately.

Brief Meeting Highlights:

  • A new member was added to the Mackinac Straights Corridor Authority Commission. However qualified this person is, it appears this appointment is a slap in the face to the local tribal members that applied to be on this commission but were passed over in favor of a Republican Party Appointee from the Detroit Metropolitan area.
  • Overall the Public Comments provided at the meeting do not support Line 5. It appears they agree with the State Attorney General and Tribes.
  • The only person speaking in favor of this tunnel was a Cheboygan County Resident in support of Enbridge because of the taxes paid to the county.
  • The only current winners in this battle appear to be the lawyers getting paid to fight. SO......you can expect that they will drag this fight out as long as possible.

While the fight continues the Great Lakes may be at risk of a catastrophic environmental disaster.
