SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. —The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Board of Directors held a regular meeting beginning 5 p.m. on July 2 at the Sault Kewadin Casino .
“Membership Participation” was held at 5 p.m. in person or by virtual attendance. One member spoke in support of the measure to allow all tribal members regardless of their address to serve on all committees. This is the measure that the Sault Tribe Guardian has been advocating for starting in 2023. This resolution passed at this meeting. In our view the final step to attract others to volunteers is to eliminate the need for the Board of Directors to approve Committee Volunteers as long as they pass a background check, along with eliminating the need for letters of support from others in the tribe. However great progress has been made to allow all Enrolled Tribal Members opportunities to support and engage with their tribe.

No mention was made to date on the tribe's website, social media page, or at the meeting regardling the tribe's loss in Federal Court to place a casino in Wayne County which is highly disappointing in our view.
