Sault Tribe Hacked? Freeze your credit?

February 11 2025.  The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians had a catastrophic data security event.

As of February 11 the website is down.  Of course they are working to correct this.  No details have been provided other than this message:

"While Sault Tribe government offices and health clinics experienced a data security incident, they will open Monday, Feb. 10, with limited capabilities for essential services to tribal members. Team Members will report on work and see their supervisors for further instructions. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available."

While no information has been confirmed Tribal Members and Employees may want to freeze your credit because the hackers may have stolen Tribal Members Social Security Numbers and addresses.  While hopefully this is not the case, better safe than sorry.

Nerd Wallet reports how to Freeze your Credit.
