Sault Tribe Youth Development Fund continues to discriminate against the majority of the Tribe’s Children.

January 3 2025.  Sault Tribe Youth Development Fund continues to discriminate against the majority of our Tribe's Children. It is a GROSS Injustice in our view.

The Sault Tribe Guardian started advocating that all our Tribe's Children are treated equally in 2022. Progress: None.

The Tribal Board and Government Administrative Office refuse to tell us how they justify discriminating against the majority of our children. Those are the children that live outside Alger, Chippewa, Delta, Luce, Mackinac and Schoolcraft Counties. *

While we support helping the children in the U.P. many Tribal Members living outside the U.P. are weary of the on-going Member Discrimination. To us it appears the Sault Tribe Government and Board of Directors continues their practice of counting members when it is to their benefit when applying for grant funding or other funding sources but provides limited services to the majority of the members* that live outside their defined service area after funded.

If you want change it will only happen when you demand that your Board Member serve all of the Tribal Members. Of course only with the promise you will vote for someone else in the next election if they don't.

* Research indicates that the majority of the tribe lives outside of the U.P. is based on U.S. Census Data . We are using this data because the Sault Tribe Board is currently in violation of Article III Section 1 of the tribe's constitution by-laws that require them to provide information about the rolls.
